At the induction of the #UgandaParliamentExhibition which uncovered secret data of how Mpuuga and other three magistrates split between themselves Shs1.7bn among themselves and courteously called the cash a help grant, NUP has formally told parliament about it's stand on the Nyendo-Mukugwe lawmaker Mathias Mpuuga.
Letters from Makerere-Kavule have been flying via online entertainment from the beginning of the Mpuuga issue. The main notification shared was that of a party meeting where Mpuuga is said to have confessed to the Shs500m, apologized and was unequivocally told to step down something he fervently declined.
One more letter flew via online entertainment addressed to Mpuuga to explicitly state why he ought not be reviewed from the parliamentary commission, he was given 7 days to do as such. For sure he composed back yet the party said in one more letter endorsed by Agent President Dr Lina Zedriga that his reasons were not persuading and the Public Chief Board of trustees consistently made plans to review Mpuuga from the parliamentary commission and supplant him with Zaake whom parliament booted from a similar situation in mid 2022.
In spite of the obstacles and NUP's negligible mathematical solidarity to cause an expulsion of Mpuuga from the commission, the party has formally kept in touch with parliament demonstrating that the previous Head of Resistance is presently not their magistrate of parliament.
The mild-mannered official from Masaka rose to the magistrate on 22nd December 2023 subsequent to being dropped and supplanted with Nakawa West administrator Joel Ssenyonyi who has since squeezed hard on Speaker Anita Among on issues defilement.
In a letter seen by this publication also flying on social media, NUP’s General Secretary David Lewis Rubongoya indicates that the party despite nominating Mpuuga to the commission on 22nd December 2023, it has decided to withdraw him with immediate effect.
“The Party has now decided to withdraw it’s nomination of Hon. Mathias Mpuuga and consequently recalled him from that position. Accordingly, the party hereby nominates Hon. Francis Zaake who was unconstitutionally removed from that position on 10th March 2022(As confirmed by the Constitutional Court in Const. petition No.6 of 2022)”-the letter reads in part.
Speaking at a press conference he held at parliament today, Mpuuga re-iterated his earlier position that he’s going nowhere and is embarking on a process to put the party in the right direction. He says it’s under captivity and being governed by dictators. He says he wants the party to put in place conflict resolution mechanisms and has vowed to deal with indiscipline in the party.
Mpuuga lashed at Bobi Wine in his entire press conference cryptically throwing jibes at him for being clueless on how political parties are managed, he said he even pities him when he see him [Bobi Wine] on TV, Radios and Social Media trying to prove to the populace that Mpuuga is corrupt and sinful.
“I have no had a meeting with my party leader [Bobi Wine]. I have only been hearing him speak [about our meeting] at funerals, the media, among others, trying to convince the country to believe that I’m a terrible human being but the country has refused to believe that. I would want to meet him”-said Mpuuga
Now after being notified that Mpuuga is not NUP’s commissioner, it leaves with no option but either reconcile, resign or serve defiantly without his party’s endorsement. Experts say if Mpuuga continues to serve with that vote of no confidence stuck on his head, it will further add more misery to the already existing conflicts in the party.
