The Minister of Gender,, Labour and Social development, Ms Betty expressed her perspective about the ongoing debate surrounding the DNA paternity testing during the annual women leaders Forum.
Under the theme "consolidating the gains on the delivery of Gender quality and women's empowerment"Minister emphasized about the need to address the issue the issue as a social matter.
The Minister highlighted that the DNA were considered the solo determinant of families in the country,all most 35 percent of families would have dissolved long time ago.
Minister Betty Amongi said that such behaviors would have affected the existence of families.Showing that communities in Uganda have ways of handling children born outside of marriage.
The Ministry of internal Affairs recently reported a significant increase of 70 percent in men seeking DNA test for Varification.
Ms Betty Amongi said that the social norms treats children born with in marriage as the responsibility of the husband and breaking up family based on the discovery of a child's paternity,it is not culturally accepted.
Such matters are typically solved through family meetings.
Minister Betty Amongi attributed that the current anxiety about the DNA issues to a few individuals who have known their biological connections with their kids attempting to avoid responsibilities.
Ms Betty Amongi noted that the Phenomenon is more prevalent in Urbana areas like Kampala City.
The Minister of Gender and Labour continued by saying the the anxiety now has been caused by few individuals who have released that the children they are having are not their biological kids and also there are people who avoiding responsibilities.
The government is engaging with religious leaders and cultural institutions to raise public awareness.
